The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Luce arrived in 2013, each fragrance a chapter, a moment made tangible. Giuseppe Imprezzabile founded Meo Fusciuni, and the name carries intention. It asks something of the wearer at first, then delivers something softer in return. Cool opening notes contrast against a warm, enveloping base, the kind of duality that plays out in any honest moment of living. The fragrance is confident in its structure, offering clarity and depth in equal measure. There is something deliberate about how it unfolds, as if each stage has been considered carefully before the next one begins.
The note structure of Luce is unusual in how it refuses the obvious arc. Birch and cedar leaves open the composition with a green, almost mineral clarity, not sharp, but bright in the way morning light through trees can be. Leather arrives as a supporting element, present but not overwhelming, grounding the freshness before it can float away. The heart, patchouli, tobacco, sandalwood, layers warmth without heaviness, adding depth and body to the scent. What makes it distinctive is the balance: each layer seems to occupy its own space while contributing to the whole.
The evolution
Luce opens with birch and cedar leaves, a bright, almost cold opening that reads like morning light through a forest canopy. The leather is present but not dominant, supporting the freshness rather than competing with it. Then the heart takes over: patchouli and tobacco layer into something darker, resinous, warm. The sandalwood holds everything together, anchoring the composition and providing a smooth transition between stages. The sandalwood itself brings a creamy, woody presence that enriches the heart notes without overwhelming them. By the time the base emerges, the fragrance has already established a warm foundation that feels natural rather than forced. The vanilla and benzoin begin to show themselves, wrapping around the earlier notes to create a base that sits close to skin. The progression feels inevitable rather than surprising, each stage building on what came before.
Cultural impact
Meo Fusciuni emerged as part of a new generation of independent perfume houses, bringing a distinctive perspective to contemporary fragrance. The combination of birch, leather, and vanilla in Luce represents a particular approach to scent construction, one that values warmth and texture. The house approach emphasizes the interplay between different note families, creating fragrances that reward attention. Luce has found an audience among those who appreciate nuanced, thoughtfully constructed scents. The fragrance speaks to a certain sensibility, one that values depth and complexity over immediate impact.
