The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Absolu Fawaki launched in 2022, a release from MABRA PARFUMS presented as a perfume extract, the most concentrated format in the brand's catalog. The composition draws on raw materials with specific provenance: benzoin from Laos for resinous warmth, a sweet oud from the Trat province of Thailand, and vanilla from Madagascar. Each of these ingredients brings its own depth to the finished juice, chosen for the particular character it contributes rather than for subtlety. The brand's perfume extracts are produced in limited quantities, with batches that vary between 5 and 30 pieces, a constraint that keeps each release small and gives the final product an air of rarity. Within that framework, Absolu Fawaki reads as a study in contrasts.
The composition does something most fruity fragrances won't attempt. It places tropical, almost confectionery top notes (passion fruit, peach, raspberry, Sicilian citrus, coconut) directly against a base of Thai oud, benzoin, and labdanum. That tension between sugary brightness and resinous smoke is where the scent earns its weight.
The evolution
The first twenty minutes belong entirely to the fruit. Passion fruit leads, bright and almost fermenting, with peach and raspberry crowding in behind. Sicilian lemon and orange cut through the sweetness like citrus rind dragged across a sugary surface. Coconut softens the edges, violet leaf adds a faint green bitterness underneath. It's loud, almost aggressively so, the kind of opening that fills a room. Around the thirty-minute mark, something shifts. The fruit recedes, not entirely but enough to let the heart notes breathe. Damask rose appears, wrapped in honeysuckle's honeyed sweetness, grounded by a woody smoke that wasn't visible before. The accord starts reading warmer, more resinous. By hour two, the fruit is a memory, a sweetness that clings to the oud rather than dominating it. The drydown is where Absolu Fawaki settles into its true form.
Cultural impact
Absolu Fawaki doesn't try to be subtle. The composition announces itself with a fruit-heavy opening that combines passion fruit, peach, raspberry, and coconut with Sicilian citrus, a combination that already reads louder than most fruity fragrances before the base even registers. Once the oud, benzoin, and labdanum begin to surface, the scent shifts toward something considerably darker and more resinous, pulling the initial sweetness down into a base of smoke and amber. That contrast between bright fruit and grounding resin gives the composition its particular character.
