The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Le Monde Gourmand has built its catalogue around edible things rendered in perfume form: almond, vanilla, coconut, chai. Mélodie de Thé continues that thread in a different register, swapping the dessert plate for a porcelain cup. The fragrance sits inside the brand's Disney's Alice in Wonderland collection, released in 2026 and composed by Clément Gavarry. Where most of the house leans gourmand-sweet, this one reaches for tea and white floral, citrus layered over a quiet musked base. The intent reads clearly: a cup of something hot, sugared at the rim, held with both hands on a cool morning.
Hibiscus tea as a perfumery subject brings a tannic, almost wine-like dryness to the heart, a far cry from the syrupy fruit accords that crowd the citrus-floral shelf. Pairing it with jasmine nectar is a deliberate counterweight: the jasmine adds the indolic warmth and skin-like softness that tea alone would never deliver. Bergamot blossom instead of straight bergamot oil extends the citrus idea without sharpening it. The mandarin threads through both halves, offering a sunny sweetness that bridges the bright top and the darker, steeped heart.
The evolution
The first 20 minutes belong entirely to the top. Sugared lemon, Italian bergamot blossom, and mandarin arrive in a bright, almost fizzy rush, like carbonation on the tongue. Then the citrus settles, and the hibiscus tea moves forward, tannic and slightly tart, with jasmine nectar hovering just beneath it, warm and faintly honeyed. The indolic quality of the jasmine threads through the heart, lending a creamy, almost narcotic softness that keeps the tea from reading as austere. By the two-hour mark the heart has softened into something closer to white linen than brewed tea. The drydown is the most surprising part. Ambrette and musk give it a skin-warmth, almost shampoo-adjacent softness, while white cedar keeps the whole thing from collapsing into sweetness. The cedar adds a faint woody grain beneath the musk, a dry backbone that lets the base breathe.
Cultural impact
Part of the Disney's Alice in Wonderland collection that Le Monde Gourmand rolled out in 2026, Mélodie de Thé stands out for its restraint. It is a citrus-tea composition with a linen-soft drydown, released as part of a themed drop that includes richer, sweeter options. The contrast is doing a lot of the work. Where other entries in the collection lean heavily into gourmand territory, this one holds back, offering a quieter, more daily-wearable alternative.
