The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says everything. Bacche Fiori Legni, Berries, Flowers, Wood. The collection draws on three botanical gestures: the tartness of hawthorn berries, the quiet elegance of orange blossom, and the grounded warmth of resinous woods. There's a sincerity to the approach. The hawthorn brings a tartness that feels almost edible, a brightness that catches the light before settling into something more settled. Orange blossom adds a creamy floral layer, soft rather than showy, threading through the composition without announcing itself. The woods anchor the whole thing, bringing a warmth that feels natural rather than constructed, the kind of depth that rewards attention. It's straightforward and confident, built on ingredients that genuinely complement each other.
Three notes in the top, one at the heart, two holding down the base. That's the architecture. Cardamom carries the center, warm and slightly spiced, with an aromatic quality that gives it presence without dominating the blend. It sits comfortably between the brighter opening notes and the deeper base, acting as a bridge without forcing the transition. Labdanum adds a resinous amber quality that brings richness and a touch of sweetness with weight. Cedarwood provides a dry, textured base that keeps the composition grounded.
The evolution
It opens bright. Grapefruit and hawthorn berry create a tart, sparkling introduction, sharp without aggression. The orange blossom softens the edges, adding a creaminess that keeps everything grounded as it settles. As the fragrance moves forward, the cardamom takes its place, warm and slightly spiced, shifting the composition from bright to something more considered. The citrus doesn't vanish entirely; it retreats, becoming a supporting note beneath the spice. The drydown brings labdanum and cedarwood together, creating a woody-resinous warmth that stays close to the skin. The presence is intimate rather than projecting, the kind you notice when you lean in. The fragrance holds together well as it develops, offering a quiet consistency from start to finish.
Cultural impact
The fragrance draws on a tradition of botanical work that values clarity and natural character in scent. It uses berries, flowers, and woods as its structural foundation, building the composition around three distinct botanical moments that each contribute something specific to the overall effect. The hawthorn berry adds tartness, the orange blossom brings a soft floral creaminess, and the woody base provides warmth and depth. This approach to botanical layering gives the scent a sense of cohesion and intentionality, where each element feels chosen rather than added arbitrarily.
