The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2008, Korloff Paris tasked Daniel Paillasseur with creating a fragrance. The brief was simple: fresh, green, and lasting. Paillasseur built Kn°I around mint, blackcurrant, and pineapple, materials that read bright and immediate on skin. The mint opens with crisp, cool energy that wakes up the senses. Blackcurrant adds a tart, almost grape-like quality that gives the top notes depth without heaviness. The pineapple brings a subtle tropical sweetness that rounds out the sharpness. The heart brings lily of the valley and freesia for softness. Lily of the valley delivers a clean, green-floral signature while freesia adds powdery softness that keeps the composition from feeling too sharp.
What makes Kn°I work is the restraint. Mint opens sharp enough to wake you up, but blackcurrant arrives quickly to add fruit without sweetness overload. The pineapple threads through as a subtle tropical note, not a piña colada moment, just enough warmth to keep the mint from feeling clinical. In the heart, lily of the valley provides that characteristic green-floral signature, while freesia adds a clean powderiness that feels neither heavy nor overwhelming. The base is where Korloff's jewelry precision shows: white cedar brings a woody clarity that supports the florals without competing, and musk keeps the whole thing intimate and skin-close.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, mint and blackcurrant arrive within seconds, creating an immediate fresh-green impression that feels like biting into a cold grape. The mint provides crisp, cool energy while the blackcurrant adds a tart depth that gives the composition substance. By the time the florals begin their slow takeover, the initial brightness has shifted into something softer and more intimate. Lily of the valley and freesia emerge gradually, replacing the sharp top notes with a gentler floral presence. Freesia adds a powdery softness that keeps the composition from feeling too sharp. As the fragrance moves deeper into its development, the white cedar and musk finally become the dominant players. At this point, the scent has shed its initial green identity and becomes something warmer, skin-like, and quietly persistent.
Cultural impact
Kn°I has maintained a quiet presence since 2008, not a blockbuster, but a reliable option for those who want fresh and green without loud projection. Wearers tend to describe it as the fragrance of someone who doesn't need to announce themselves. The scent offers a subtle, refined presence that allows the wearer to make an impression without overwhelming a space. Its fresh, green character appeals to those who appreciate understated elegance over bold statements.
