The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Silvana by Il Profvmo arrived in 2017, a fragrance bearing the name of its founder and perfumer Silvana Casoli. This is the house literally putting its own name on a scent, a statement of identity that carries weight. The fragrance opens with pink berries that are bright and sparkling, their fruity quality giving way to a delicate floral undertone. Pale iris weaves through the opening, its powdery, slightly sweet character softening the initial sharpness and adding a creamy dimension. Tender white musk rounds the composition, wrapping the other notes in a gentle warmth that feels intimate rather than loud. The overall effect is not a grand gesture. Something more personal. Casoli has created a composition that is quiet and precise, each element in proportion, nothing overstated.
Florentine iris sits at the centrepiece of Silvana, lending its distinctive powdery character to the composition. The iris unfolds with a creamy, slightly sweet quality that is characteristic of this prized material. Pink pepper arrives in the opening, providing a zingy, almost effervescent brightness that lifts the heavier iris note and prevents it from becoming too dense or heavy. The white musk in the heart of the fragrance acts as a binding force, threading everything together and keeping the drydown close to the skin.
The evolution
Pink pepper berries arrive bright and almost fizzy in the opening, a clean spark that fills the initial moments. The effect is sharp but not aggressive, aerated and refreshing. From there, the iris slides in gradually, creamy and slightly sweet, with a powdery warmth that begins to establish itself as the top notes soften. The pink pepper does not disappear entirely but becomes part of the fabric of the scent, its brightness mellowing as the iris and white musk deepen their presence. The musk carries the composition forward, holding the iris and pepper together in a warm embrace that sits close to the skin. The drydown is intimate rather than projecting outward, with the fragrance settling into a soft, lingering warmth that feels personal and close.
Cultural impact
Florentine iris holds a distinguished position in perfumery, valued for its distinctive powdery character and creamy floral quality. The iris note in Silvana brings this character to the forefront, providing a centrepiece around which the other notes revolve. This material has been used in fine perfumery for its ability to add depth and sophistication to fragrance compositions. Silvana features iris as its defining note, showcasing the versatility of this material in a contemporary context.
