The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
"Plissée" refers to a pleated dress, the kind that moves with you, catching light at every turn. In 2019, Thierry Wasser translated that idea into scent for Guerlain's Little Black Dress collection. The result opens with a bright, tart trifecta: sour cherry, mandarin orange, and apricot. Then black tea, almond, and rose take over, building warmth. Patchouli and white musk anchor the finish. The pleated dress as metaphor, each note folded into the next, light and layered, never heavy. A fragrance for someone who wants elegance without ceremony.
What makes Plissée interesting is its lightness within the LPRN family. Where other flankers lean into deeper, darker territory, this one opens like a window thrown open in spring. The black tea is the unexpected move. It's not a typical Guerlain move, either. That slight bitter elegance keeps the sweetness honest, stops it from becoming syrupy. The almond note deepens almost to marzipan, but the tea keeps it grounded. Patchouli and white musk in the base are classic Guerlain territory, warm and intimate, the signature on a letter you weren't supposed to find. The pleated dress reference is precise. This fragrance moves.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately: sour cherry, bright and tart, with mandarin cutting through like a window thrown open. Apricot arrives within seconds, softening everything into something golden and warm. For the first 30 minutes, it's playful and bright, almost girlish. The transition to the heart is gradual. The cherry settles, the citrus fades, and black tea emerges with its quiet bitter elegance. Almond takes over from there, warm and marzipan-sweet, while rose whispers in the background. By hour two, the drydown has arrived. Patchouli brings its earthy, slightly dirty depth. White musk wraps everything in softness, close to the skin, intimate. The development is measured, never hurried. As the hours pass, the warm almond note grows more pronounced, intertwining with the patchouli to create a soft, comforting base that lingers.
Cultural impact
La Petite Robe Noire Plissée belongs to Guerlain's Little Black Dress line, where each flanker interprets a different fabric texture in scent. The pleated accordion of Plissée translates into a lighter, tea-inflected character that offers an accessible entry point to the LPRN universe. This approach allows newcomers to explore the collection through a delicate, airy interpretation that captures the essence of the line without overwhelming the senses.
