The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Black Suit arrived in 2021 from Geparlys Parfums, the French house known for composing original fragrances. The name alone announces ambition, this is not a scent that arrived by accident or committee. Black Suit sits within the Les Infinis collection, where each fragrance is crafted to make a statement. The name Black Suit suggests something formal, something worn when the stakes are real. The fragrance had to match that weight. From the first spray, the composition establishes its intentions, iris and amber weaving together with a presence that demands attention rather than requesting it. The drydown settles into a warm embrace of cedar, musk and benzoin, creating an intimate trail that lingers close to the skin.
What makes the structure interesting is the cold-warm push-pull that opens the composition. Iris arrives powdery, almost mineral, cool enough to feel like restraint. Amber doesn't rush in. It builds gradually, warm touches against that cool opening, until the whole thing reads as warmth barely contained. Tonka and vanilla sweeten the deal without making it soft. Cedar and moss arrive to remind you this has weight. It's oriental structure with powdery discipline, not a straightforward amber bomb, but something more controlled.
The evolution
The opening is all iris. Powdered, almost dusty, with that slightly medicinal coolness that iris carries. It doesn't announce itself loudly. It arrives and waits. Within twenty minutes, amber starts pushing through, resinous, warm, like heat building under glass. The tonka follows, bringing that characteristic sweet-spice that reads more like almonds than sugar. Vanilla swells quietly in the background. By the second hour, cedar has appeared, woody and dry, keeping the sweetness from becoming cloying. Musk and benzoin settle into the skin, creating a warm, slightly resinous cloud that stays close. The drydown is intimate rather than projecting, the kind of scent you catch yourself rather than the kind that announces you.
Cultural impact
Black Suit sits within the Les Infinis collection, a group of fragrances designed to make an impression. The name carries weight, and the oriental structure within gives it presence. It occupies a particular space in the house's broader catalog, offering warmth that registers firmly rather than fading into the background. The composition appeals to those who appreciate a fragrance with substance, where each note contributes to a whole that feels intentional and composed. Black Suit does not disappear into the room; it occupies it.
