The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Gaia Parfums emerged from Karachi's niche perfume scene with a commitment to small-batch, organic creations that honor local heritage while embracing modern artistry. Perfumer Hussam Masood approaches each fragrance as a meditation on purity and inclusivity. For Tohooran, he selected organic white florals and wood ingredients that reflect the gentle rhythm of everyday life in Karachi. The name itself suggests presence and authenticity, inviting the wearer into a sensory experience rooted in natural materials rather than synthetic constructs.
Masood's philosophy for Tohooran centers on accessibility without compromise. The decision to forego traditional top notes reflects a belief that purity lies in directness. Each ingredient was chosen for its ability to contribute to a cohesive whole, from the luminous Jasmine to the grounding Cedarwood. Peach and Apricot were included to temper the intensity of the white florals, preventing them from overwhelming. The result is a fragrance that feels balanced and intentional, designed for wearers who appreciate warmth, intimacy, and natural materials over performative intensity.
The evolution
The evolution of Tohooran is unconventional in its directness. Without a distinct opening, the fragrance presents its full aromatic vision immediately upon application. Jasmine and Orange Blossom arrive with buttery sweetness and green elegance, supported by the subtle tropical facets of Peach and Apricot. As the scent develops over the first hour, Sandalwood and Cedarwood emerge to ground the florals, adding warm woodsy depth. Benzoin introduces smoky sweetness, while Musk and Tuberose create an increasingly intimate, creamy character. By the third hour, the composition settles into a persistent, skin-close drydown where woody warmth and resinous depth dominate, with Musk lending a second-skin quality that remains present for hours.
Cultural impact
Since its 2023 debut, Tohooran has become a quiet ambassador for South‑Asian indie perfumery, showing that organic, unisex scents can resonate beyond niche circles. Wearers often cite its blend of fruit and white‑floral notes as a fresh alternative to more opulent oud‑heavy offerings, positioning the fragrance as a bridge between traditional regional aromas and contemporary global tastes.
