The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
G-Nose Perfumes, founded in mid-2010s France with a philosophy that strong emotions deserve strong scents, gave perfumer Dario Fini a clear mandate: create something that would test the boundaries of bold fragrance design. The house had built its reputation on compositions that provoked genuine emotional responses, and Overdose was conceived as the ultimate expression of that philosophy. Fini's brief was simple on paper, difficult in execution: design a unisex fragrance that announced itself without apology, one that would spark conversation and challenge expectations of what a niche perfume could do.
The note selection reveals Fini's understanding of balance within boldness. Orange provides the initial impact, but Tuberose carries the fragrance's emotional weight. Cinnamon and Patchouli create a spicy-earthy bridge that connects the bright opening to the warm base, ensuring cohesion across the scent's evolution. Cumin and Guaiac Wood in the drydown address the fragrance's name directly, bringing the provocative intensity that defines its character. Cedarwood serves as the sophisticated counterpoint, preventing the composition from becoming merely challenging. The result is a fragrance built on deliberate contrasts: bright versus warm, floral versus spicy, clean versus smoky, approachable versus provocative.
The evolution
Overdose begins as a citrus statement with Orange demanding immediate attention, a bright and assertive opening that announces the fragrance's intentions within seconds. The heart arrives around twenty minutes in, where Tuberose takes center stage in full indolic glory, its creamy sweetness balanced by the spiced warmth of Cinnamon and grounded by earthy Patchouli. The progression is dramatic, a clear shift from clean citrus to rich floral warmth. The drydown completes the transformation, with Cumin introducing a subtle provocative edge that moves the fragrance into intimate territory. Guaiac Wood provides smoky depth while Cedarwood offers dry structure, creating a finish that feels both wild and refined. The complete arc spans from crisp brightness through opulent florals to warm, smoky woods.
Cultural impact
Wearers describe Overdose as the scent of a night‑owl who loves bold contrasts; it’s often mentioned alongside Audace and My Oud as a polarizing but beloved piece in the house’s 2019 lineup, earning a reputation for strong sillage and a daring cumin edge that sparks conversation.
