The beginning
Proud of You Oud arrived in 2024 from Fragrance World, a house that built its name around accessible perfumery with a strong Arabic fragrance influence. The name suggests a nod to accomplishment, the kind of scent you'd reach for when something went right and you want the air around you to agree. It's an Oriental Woody composition built on a foundation of oud and leather, two materials that often carry serious weight and intensity from the opening spray. The oud announces itself with that particular resinous depth, slightly smoky and medicinal at first contact, before softening into a warmer, almost animalic undertone as the hours pass. Leather wraps around the oud and gives it structure, adding a supple, slightly sweet dryness that keeps the composition from veering too austere.
What makes this composition worth a second look is the doubled lavender, appearing in both the opening and the heart, wrapping around the sweeter plum and vanilla notes like a frame around a photograph. The clary sage adds an herbal, almost medicinal edge to the top, keeping things from tipping into pure sweetness before the woody base has a chance to settle. It's a structure that respects oud's weight without letting it dominate, balancing the resinous depth with aromatic freshness and a soft spicy warmth.
The evolution
The first spray hits with that sharp, almost bracing lavender and clary sage, clean enough to cut through a stuffy room. Within fifteen minutes the plum arrives, darker than expected, sweet but grounded by the cinnamon underneath. The vanilla creeps in alongside it, giving the heart a creamy softness that softens the herbal opening into something warmer. By the two-hour mark the lavender has mostly retreated, and the base starts to assert itself: oud first, not smoky but resinous, then leather, then the quieter woods of sandalwood and cedar holding everything upright. The patchouli and amber add a low hum of warmth underneath. Six hours in, what's left on skin is mostly the oud-amber-cedar skeleton, soft and close, still recognizable but quieter. The longevity sits in the moderate range, enough to carry through a workday and into an evening without needing a reapplication, though the projection does pull inward after the first few hours.
Cultural impact
Proud of You Oud draws obvious comparisons to Giorgio Armani's Stronger With You Oud, sharing that aromatic-oud DNA but with a heavier leather base that gives it a noticeably different gravity on the skin. The lavender and spice in the opening lands in familiar territory, but where the Armani original trends sweeter and more confectionary in its drydown, this one pulls toward a darker, more resinous finish.
