The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oud Intense arrived in 2017 as a concentrated expression built entirely around the resinous, animalic depth of the wood itself. The brand had built partnerships with sustainable oud growers in Indonesia and Malaysia, regions where harvesters still use age-old techniques to extract oil from mature Aquilaria trees. Through these connections, Fragrance Du Bois developed the supply chain and refined processing methods needed to create a fragrance centered on the natural complexity of oud. Pure expression. Nothing added to distract from the distinctive character of the oil.
What makes this composition notable isn't what it adds, it's what it doesn't. Oud Intense works as a proof of concept: sustainable sourcing doesn't mean diluted intensity. Natural oud oil carries a signature profile, the camphoraceous heat, the animalic depth, the resinous sweetness that emerges as the oil warms on skin. This is oud without apology, without masking agents. The result is a fragrance that either connects immediately or doesn't, but when it connects, it holds for a full working day, staying present and true to its source material throughout.
The evolution
The opening announces oud's darker qualities immediately, resinous, slightly animalic, qualities that tell you this came from a living tree. No pretense. The composition settles as it develops, the rawness giving way to a warmer, more resolved heart that stays close to the skin. The projection shifts after the opening act, what started as confident becomes intimate, present without announcing itself. The drydown reveals a deeper warmth, that resinous sweetness softening like wood left in warm sunlight. The final act is the quietest but longest, a subtle persistence that lingers.
Cultural impact
Oud Intense presents oud in a way that asks the wearer to meet the ingredient directly. The composition builds entirely around the resinous, animalic depth of the wood itself, without layering in florals or citruses to soften the experience. That directness either resonates or doesn't, there's little middle ground. For those who connect with it, the fragrance serves as an introduction to what natural oud actually smells like, showing the ingredient's essential character without additional accords.
