What's unusual here is the restraint. Intellect opens on teak and sandalwood, two materials that don't shout, and uses labdanum and amber as the structural heart rather than as decoration. Laurel and patchouli do the dark work underneath. Vanilla arrives late and behaves itself. The result reads less like a composition chasing attention and more like one composed to be reread, and that distinction is exactly what makes it interesting. The interplay between the woods and the resins feels almost architectural in how it holds its shape.

The evolution

The first hour is dry wood with composure, teak dominant, sandalwood rounding its edges, a faint medicinal flicker from laurel that reads more like cedar shavings than anything overtly herbal. Patchouli sits underneath, felt more than smelled, giving the wood a slightly earthy undertow. Around the 90-minute mark, labdanum and amber step forward as the resinous center asserts itself. The wood goes warmer. The composition gets denser, richer, less austere. By hour three the vanilla shows up and softens the whole architecture, but it never overwhelms, it sweetens the edges without turning gourmand. The drydown after hour four is a close-skin affair: warm wood, amber residue, a trace of vanilla, the ghost of something resinous still holding its shape. On fabric the next morning it reads as clean skin-warmth with a woody undertone. Moderate projection throughout. Best in the first three hours; after that it's yours and anyone leaning close.
