The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Motto arrived in 2025 as part of Farmasi's women's lineup. The name does the work. A motto is a personal rule, a line drawn before anyone else can draw it. This fragrance reads as an extension of that ethos: a floral-oriental composition built for women who lead with their own taste rather than trend. There's no borrowed concept here, no place on a map anchoring the inspiration. The intention is simpler and louder. Wear what you've decided to wear. The juice backs that posture with a gourmand-leaning heart that isn't subtle about its sweetness, and a base that refuses to apologize for it. The opening carries a bright citrus flicker from orange and mandarin, almost candied in feel, before the white florals move in and take over the conversation.
What makes Motto's structure worth a second look is the tension between its registers. The top layer runs bright with orange and mandarin, the kind of citrus opening that signals fresh and clean. Then the middle pivots hard into gardenia, honey, peach, jasmine, and orange blossom, a generous floral-gourmand territory that most compositions in this space handle one note at a time. Motto stacks them. The base then grounds everything with caramel, cedarwood, patchouli, and a thread of licorice that keeps the sweetness from collapsing into pure sugar. That licorice note is the structural anchor. It gives the drydown a slightly bitter, almost salty edge that prevents the caramel from reading juvenile.
The evolution
On skin, the citrus doesn't linger. Orange and mandarin announce themselves in the opening, bright and almost candied, before stepping aside for the floral wave. Gardenia and orange blossom take the wheel early, and the honey shows up not as a separate note but as a texture thickening everything it touches. The peach adds a fleshy, ripe quality that sits underneath the white florals like a soft bassline. As the composition develops, it shifts from bright and fruity to something denser and warmer. Caramel arrives in the base, sweet but not sticky, and the cedarwood gives the whole thing a dry wooden frame. The licorice is the surprise. It doesn't announce itself the way it does in dedicated anise-forward fragrances. It moves through the late drydown like a shadow, slightly bitter, slightly herbal, keeping the sweetness honest.
Cultural impact
Motto carries enough sweetness to feel indulgent without tipping into the syrupy territory that flattens so many compositions in this vein. The floral heart gives it a recognizable warmth, gardenia and orange blossom lending a creamy softness that reads instantly feminine, while the honey adds a golden thickness that feels like sunlight filtered through amber glass. Peach sits beneath it all, fleshy and slightly fuzzy, giving the florals a fruit skin to lean against rather than floating them in air. The gourmand base is where the composition makes its personality known.
