The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nomad arrived in 2020 through Jean-Claude Richard, taking Farfalla's free-spirited aromatic naturalism and turning it into a scent for someone who moves by instinct rather than convention. Its name points toward freedom rather than a fixed destination. The composition starts with Mandarin Orange, then turns less predictable through Vetiver, Rose Geranium, and Iris. Nothing here clings to polished predictability. Citrus supplies the pace; earth and powder keep the finish grounded. The result feels suited to open air, shifting plans, and the sort of independence that treats a map as a suggestion.
The interesting part is the collision between Mandarin Orange and Vetiver. One brings light, fruit, and immediate motion; the other adds dry soil, green structure, and a distinctly human edge. Rose Geranium sits between them with a green floral lift, while Iris cools the whole arrangement into something polished without making it severe. Spicy and woody facets add a faint resistance, so the fragrance never becomes simple citrus with good intentions. It changes direction as it dries, but never loses that independent streak.
The evolution
It begins with a clean hit of citrus, bright and immediate, then quickly hands the composition to Vetiver. That shift introduces earth, greenness, and a drier pulse, making the opening feel less like a splash of cologne and more like air moving across open ground. Rose Geranium adds a leafy floral shape through the middle, while Iris leaves a powdery, composed hush that softens the sharper edges. As the hours pass, citrus recedes first, but the earthy and floral core remains recognizable. The scent settles close to the skin and usually fades within 4-6 hours, leaving the wearer with a quiet trace of green earth and powder rather than a dramatic finale.
Cultural impact
Nomad’s cultural impact is tied to its travel-inspired identity and its balance of bright citrus with earthy, natural materials. The name suggests freedom, movement, and an unhurried connection to place, while the composition reflects a contemporary fragrance idea: exploration without losing refinement. Its unisex profile also broadens how the scent is worn, making it relevant across everyday routines, travel settings, and casual cultural moments.
The House
FarfallaFarfalla is a Swiss fragrance house shaped by the world of natural essential oils. Independent profiles trace its beginnings to a group of hippies seeking aromatic oils during the 1980s, while another Fragrantica profile dates the perfume company to 2012 as an extension of the earlier Farfalla Essentials work. Its collection is rooted in evocative place and sensory ideas, including mountains, gardens, deserts, vanilla and clouds. Pleasures such as Shandrani, Anima, Aura, Nomad, Hippie Rose, Frangipani, Nuvola and Vanilla Nuvola give the house a varied character, moving between botanical freshness, warm woods, spice, floral richness and gourmand vanilla.
