The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Farfalla launched Frangipani in 2020 as part of its Natural Eau de Cologne line. The fragrance is built around the character of frangipani, then developed through a layered floral composition. Orange adds brightness at the opening, while champaca contributes a honeyed warmth to the white-flower heart. Frangipani provides the central floral identity, and iris brings a cool, composed counterpoint. Benzoin anchors the structure with warmth and depth. The result is a cologne that balances fresh citrus, rounded florals, and a softly resonant base, offering a polished but restrained expression of the fragrance.
What's distinctive here is the tension between flower and cologne. Farfalla presents frangipani with a creamy sweetness, balanced by orange's brightness and iris's coolness. Champaca adds a honeyed dimension around the floral heart, helping the composition feel rounded rather than flat. Benzoin in the base gives the flowers a warm foundation and keeps the scent from seeming disconnected. Nothing in the pyramid announces itself with excessive force; the structure is built around a quiet, persistent warmth rather than a single dominant note.
The evolution
The opening begins with orange, bright and almost edible, mixed with the slightly honeyed side of champaca before the fuller frangipani note establishes itself. Orange gradually gives way to the flower heart, where frangipani becomes more prominent and iris adds a cool, polished counterpoint. The floral notes unfold into a creamy, rounded center, while benzoin arrives underneath as a quiet source of warmth. As the fragrance develops, the opening citrus character softens and the composition becomes more cohesive. What remains is a gentle floral impression supported by iris and benzoin, with the flowers and base notes continuing to define its character.
Cultural impact
Frangipani can be understood as a natural-material cologne built around a white-flower heart. Orange brings brightness, champaca adds honeyed warmth, frangipani supplies the central floral character, iris introduces a cool counterpoint, and benzoin gives the composition a warm foundation. Together, these notes create a restrained but layered style that invites closer attention to how citrus, flowers, and base notes interact. Its appeal lies in the balance of fresh opening notes with a soft floral center, offering a considered alternative to fragrances built around one conspicuous floral accent.
