Why it exists.
The beginning
Ramon Monegal designed Clear Day for Etienne Aigner in 1998. The brief wasn't revolutionary, it was clarifying. The brand had been present since 1949, and this fragrance had to fit that same sensibility: confident without announcing itself, present without demanding attention. Clear Day offered a different approach. A clear composition, three tropical top notes, one aromatic heart, a mossy base that kept everything honest. The name said it all: clarity over complexity, the morning over the night before.
What's unexpected here is the oakmoss. The ingredient could have felt dated in other hands, designers often moved toward cleaner bases, musks, woods. But Monegal kept it, and it does something essential: it anchors the tropical sweetness of pineapple and melon before they can drift into the atmosphere like air freshener. The amber in the base provides warmth without sweetness. The coriander and lavender give the heart an herbal character that reads as natural rather than constructed. The composition has economy. Each material earns its place.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and fruity. Pineapple leads, melon adds sweetness, bergamot sharpens. For a brief window, Clear Day announces itself, not loudly, but clearly. This is the part that makes the impression. Then the fruit softens. The heart takes over: lavender arrives quiet and clean, coriander adds a whisper of spice. The transition isn't dramatic, it happens the way a morning shifts when the first person leaves the room and the conversation continues without announcement.
