The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oud Nuh 2026 joins Ensar Oud's Extrait Supérieur collection as a composition built around the raw character of its materials. The fragrance combines Indian, Malayan, and Assam oud with Omani green frankincense and cade juniper, and the result is a composition that lets those notes carry the full weight of their natural presence. There is no smoothing layer, no softening accord tucked beneath the oud to make it more palatable. Just the materials themselves doing what they do. The extrait format concentrates each component, and the three oud variants each contribute their own distinct character while the frankincense and juniper smoke provide structure around them.
What distinguishes Oud Nuh from many oud-forward extraits is the choice of frankincense and its role within the structure. Omani green frankincense brings a chlorophyll-bright bitterness that cuts through the animalic density of the oud rather than softening it. The resin arrives with a sharp, almost bitter brightness that contrasts directly with the darker, denser materials around it. Cade juniper adds a tarry, smoked dimension that grounds the composition further. The combination of Indian, Malayan, and Assam oud creates a layered effect where each regional character gets space to register.
The evolution
Oud Nuh opens with an immediate wave of animalic Assam oud that registers before the composition has time to settle on skin. For the first twenty minutes, the Assam character dominates almost completely, dense and unapologetic. Then cade juniper surfaces with its tarry, smoked-meat smokiness, and green Omani frankincense introduces a bright, almost bitter counterpoint that prevents the composition from sinking into pure density. The heart phase, roughly thirty minutes to two hours in, is where the three oud variants begin to negotiate. Assam still dominates, but Malayan oud introduces a darker quality beneath the surface, while Indian oud adds a dry, papery texture that shifts the weight of the composition. Sillage during this window registers strongly. After three hours, the composition begins its descent.
Cultural impact
Oud Nuh sits within Ensar Oud's Extrait Supérieur collection and reflects the house's continued focus on wild and organically distilled Assam material. The fragrance appeals to a collector base already comfortable with natural oud and looking for compositions that prioritize material character. Within the niche community, Oud Nuh has drawn attention for its raw approach to oud perfumery, offering an extrait that lets the source oils speak with minimal intervention.
