Why it exists.
The beginning
Musc Millesime arrived in 2025 as part of Ensar Oud's ongoing conversation with musk, one of the oldest materials in perfumery and the one most often mishandled in modern compositions. The fragrance takes its name from a sense of captured quality, something specific and worth preserving. Two musk varieties anchor the composition: Mongolian and Tibetan, raw materials with real depth and presence. Surrounding them is a careful architecture of oud, sandalwood, jasmine, and costus root, each material contributing its own weight and texture. The apricot note adds a generous warmth to the top, while black caraway introduces a cool, almost anise-tinged spice. There's no rush in the way these notes are assembled.
What's unusual here is the structural choice: the musks aren't treated as background or finishing material. That decision changes everything about how the composition behaves on skin. The musk isn't an afterthought or a finish line. It's the medium the other notes dissolve into. Apricot and black caraway add brightness and spice, but the musks are what give those notes their gravity. The way the two musk varieties work together creates a density that holds the entire composition in place.
The evolution
The opening brings apricot first, ripe and slightly syrupy, almost candied, then oud underneath, smoky and resinous. Black caraway adds a cool, almost anise-like crackle in the early minutes, pulling the sweetness sideways. As the composition settles, jasmine sambac begins to bloom, but it's restrained, never heady, working alongside costus root's earthy, slightly animalic warmth rather than floating above it. The musk begins to assert itself, not as a clean skin scent but as something deeper, denser. Australian sandalwood adds creaminess without softening the composition's edge. Mongolian and Tibetan musks take over in the later stages, becoming the dominant voice. The drydown persists with real presence, the musks continuing to register well into the evening.
Cultural impact
Musc Millesime centers two distinct musk varieties as the structural foundation of the composition, giving them prominence alongside oud, sandalwood, and the other supporting notes. The apricot and oud pairing in the opening gives the fragrance an accessible warmth that draws wearers in, while the musks below introduce a depth that rewards closer attention.
