The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cheeky Bonbon joined the Elle lineup in 2024, a fruity-floral release that leans into the brand's appetite for playful, accessible fragrance. The scent treats its compositions as small, wearable stories rather than heavy statements, and the 2024 addition continues that tradition with a confectionary tilt. Three fruit notes open the juice before any floral arrives, a structural choice that keeps the first impression immediate and sweet. It sits alongside city-themed releases like Elle in Paris and the gourmand So Sweety!, sharing shelf space with a catalog that prizes variety. Where So Sweety!
What makes Cheeky Bonbon structurally interesting is its berry overload up top. Three fruit notes (pear, raspberry, strawberry) collide before any floral gets a word in, putting sweetness front and center from the first spray. Then the heart introduces apple alongside jasmine and heliotrope, a pairing that brings a crisp, almost edible green quality to an otherwise creamy floral core. The green apple slices through the jasmine's indolic softness, while the heliotrope adds a powdery almond nuance that keeps the florals from collapsing into something too syrupy.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all fruit, bright strawberry and raspberry layered over juicy pear. The berries give a candied, almost jammy sweetness, while the pear underneath adds a cool, watery freshness that keeps the opening from feeling too heavy. By the twenty-minute mark, the fruit softens and apple slips in alongside jasmine, lending a crisp sweetness that feels greener, less candy-like. The jasmine here stays restrained, never tipping into the dense, indolic territory some florals fall into. Heliotrope works quietly through the middle hour, adding that almond-powder softness that keeps the florals from going flat. After two hours, the vanilla and sandalwood take the wheel. The vanilla reads warm and golden rather than sharp, blending smoothly with sandalwood's milky wood character.
Cultural impact
Cheeky Bonbon brings a berry-driven personality to Elle's catalog, where fruity and floral compositions share space with gourmand and themed editions. Within the brand's own lineup it reads as a brighter, more confectionary option, offering a lighter sweetness compared to richer gourmand siblings like So Sweety! and a softer atmosphere than the city-themed Paris and London entries. The opening trio of strawberry, raspberry, and pear gives it an immediately sweet impression, while the floral heart of jasmine and heliotrope, accented by apple, keeps the composition from tipping into pure candy territory.
