The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cashmere arrived in 2018, part of Elegantes' Personality Collection, and Julien Rasquinet composed it as a study in restrained warmth. The London house launched its debut extrait de parfum portfolio between 2017 and 2018, and Cashmere sits among that first wave as the most wearable of the set, a fragrance named for a textile rather than a place or an event. Rasquinet, a perfumer with a reputation for precise woody-amber constructions, built this one around the idea of something you could actually wear. Not a showpiece. A second skin for evenings that matter. The brief, as the house describes it, was simple: soft, warm, rich, with the quiet glamour that Elegantes positions at the center of its identity.
The composition earns its name through a deliberate absence of noise. Where many orientals reach for heavy resins, oud, or frankincense to anchor their warmth, Rasquinet chose Amber Xtreme, a modern amber molecule known for its radiant, almost skin-like glow, over a foundation of Indonesian patchouli and sandalwood. That decision matters because Amber Xtreme behaves differently on skin than traditional amber accords. It doesn't project outward so much as warm the space immediately around the wearer.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are a citrus overture: bergamot bright, apple crisp, linden blossom carrying a faint green honey that you almost miss. Then the florals arrive, not as a separate chapter but as a slow lean. Lily of the valley lifts the opening into something dewy and cool, while rose anchors it with a dusty sweetness that never tips into syrup. Saffron threads through the heart, warming the florals from below, a spice note that reads more golden than hot. Two hours in, the base has fully taken over. Amber Xtreme does the quiet work, glowing rather than radiating, while Indonesian patchouli grounds everything with a soft, earthy hum. Sandalwood smooths the transitions and musk closes the skin down, intimate and warm. By hour five, you're wearing something that smells less like a fragrance and more like an expensive pullover.
Cultural impact
Cashmere sits in a quiet corner of the niche world, the kind of composition that rewards the wearer who already knows what they're looking for. It wears like an evening piece, built for dinners, galas, and the dressed-up hours when fragrance becomes part of the outfit. Among the handful of rated Elegantes releases, it reads as the house's most accessible, an approachable warmth that doesn't demand collector-level commitment. Its closest peers in mood and structure tend to be other powdery, rose-and-amber orientals from independent houses that favor extraction-strength compositions over mainstream eau de parfum releases.
