The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Splendiris is Pissara Umavijani's declaration for the iris, that overlooked, quietly magnificent flower. The name itself is a coinage: splendid + iris. A quiet joke, perhaps, but the fragrance isn't quiet at all. Where many powdery florals soften and recede, Splendiris plants itself firmly in the room. The brief was clear: a blue dream, wide awake. Energetic. Joyful. Self-possessed. The perfumer wanted to capture the moment when someone decides they are allowed to take up space, not loudly, not aggressively, but with the quiet certainty of someone who simply knows. Launched in 2019, Splendiris arrived in a market crowded with safe florals and delivered something rarer: a powdery fragrance with a pulse.
The structure is what makes Splendiris work. Violet leaf opens, crisp, green, almost meteorological, then carrot seed arrives with an earthy undertone that surprises anyone expecting a straightforward floral. The citrus layer (bergamot, green mandarin, blood orange) keeps the top bright and immediate. But the heart is where Pissara's intent shows. Orris root, expensive, time-consuming, unforgiving, is the perfumer's canvas here. It gives Splendiris that signature powdery quality without becoming a violet-scented cloud. Grasse rose adds refinement without sweetness. Jasmine sambac brings warmth and a touch of the tropics.
The evolution
The opening salvo is all citrus and green, bergamot, green mandarin, blood orange over violet leaf. Bright. Ozonic. The carrot seed threads an earthy note beneath the freshness, unexpected and grounding. Within minutes, the orris arrives. Creamy. Powdery. The violet leaves follow, cool and slightly metallic. The rose and jasmine soften the iris without diluting it. This is the heart of Splendiris, a powdery floral that doesn't retreat. The vanilla emerges slowly, warming the composition, blending the green edges into something softer. The cedar and vetiver arrive last, dry and earthy, preventing the sweetness from taking over. The ambergris adds a marine warmth, salt without alcohol. By the drydown, the vetiver lingers closest to the skin, earthy and slightly smoky, present even the next morning on fabric. Splendiris holds for 6-8 hours on most skin. On dry skin, closer to 6.
Cultural impact
Splendiris occupies a specific niche: the powdery floral for someone who doesn't want to smell like everyone else. Community reviews describe it as reminiscent of expensive bar soap, but in a way that signals quality rather than simplicity. The iris-violet combination draws comparisons to Guerlain's Après L'Ondée, but Splendiris is greener, more confident. Wearers describe it as the scent of someone who walks into a room and doesn't need to announce themselves. The fragrance appeals to those who want refinement without aggression, warmth without sweetness, a powdery floral that actually has a pulse.
