Heritage
A house, in its own words
Parfums Dusita emerged from one woman's extraordinary passion for scent and verse. Pissara Umavijani, born in Thailand and based in Paris, launched the house in 2016, naming it after her grandmother Dusita. Though entirely self-taught, Pissara studied vintage perfumes obsessively, reading about formulations and researching raw materials before she ever attempted to create her own. Her background as a former classical ballet dancer informed her understanding of elegance and discipline, skills she later applied to composition. The house quickly earned recognition within the niche fragrance community for its refined, literary approach to scent. Pissara's compositions often reference classical poetry, and she speaks openly about drawing inspiration from ancient Thai verse as well as Homeric epics. Dusita's first releases established a reputation for romantic, natural-smelling fragrances that avoided the synthetic trends dominating mainstream perfumery. The house operates independently, allowing Pissara complete creative freedom over every formulation. Over the years, Dusita has presented at international events including Notes Shanghai, connecting with fragrance enthusiasts across Asia and beyond. The brand has received multiple industry awards, cementing its place among respected independent houses. Pissara continues to lead all creative decisions, personally developing each fragrance in her Paris studio. Pissara Umavijani approaches perfumery as a form of storytelling. She believes fragrance should carry emotion and memory, much like a well-crafted poem lingers in the mind. This conviction shapes every aspect of Dusita, from ingredient selection to the way she describes her creations. Her work honors classical French techniques while remaining rooted in her Thai heritage. She often uses high-quality naturals and avoids the heavy synthetics common in modern fragrance production. This commitment to craftsmanship over cost-cutting gives Dusita fragrances their distinctive, vintage-inspired character. As a self-taught perfumer, Pissara brings an outsider's intuition to a traditional craft. She trusts her nose over formulas, composing by feel rather than following rigid industry conventions. This organic approach results in fragrances that feel personal and considered, rather than formulaic. Each release tells a specific story, often inspired by literature, nature, or personal memory.
