The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Amber Gris emerged in 2024 as part of Deraah Private's continued quest to fuse Arabian heritage with modern design. Building on the house's 2017 foundation in Saudi Arabia, the fragrance was crafted for the brand's private-label clientele who value Intimate, bespoke experiences. Its name hints at the duality within: the golden warmth of amber and the oceanic depth of gris.
The note selection reflects a deliberate balance between aromatic tradition and contemporary construction. Cardamom, a staple in Arabian perfumery, meets modern materials like SP3 Carbon and ambroxan, a synthetic ambergris substitute. The pairing of coriander with iris grounds the vanilla heart, preventing it from becoming saccharine, while Peru balsam and leather anchor the composition with regional resinous character.
The evolution
The fragrance opens with cardamom, pink pepper, and bergamot creating a crisp, spicy-bright introduction grounded by SP3 Carbon's mineral modernity. As the top notes soften, vanilla, coriander, and iris take over, weaving a creamy, herbaceous heart that balances the earlier brightness. The journey concludes in a substantial drydown of Peru balsam, patchouli, leather, and ambroxan, delivering resinous warmth and enduring depth.
Cultural impact
Amber Gris reflects a modern reinterpretation of traditional Arabian fragrance heritage, merging classic amber and leather accords with contemporary spice notes like pink pepper and cardamom. Launched in 2024, it resonates with a generation seeking both nostalgia and innovation, influencing boutique perfumers to explore similar spice‑amber blends in their own collections, thereby shaping current scent trends toward warm, nuanced compositions that balance heritage with modernity. Its reception has encouraged a dialogue about cultural fusion in perfumery, highlighting how regional ingredients can be reimagined for global audiences.
