The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dominique Bouley designed Rami for DefineMe's Crystal Infused Gourmand collection, where emotional intention meets sensory pleasure. The brief: a fragrance that brings clarity and purpose, warmth without weight, sweetness without fog. Black cherry and fig arrived as the opening act, but Bouley wasn't interested in fruit alone. She layered salted caramel and almond into the heart, letting gourmand become grounding rather than guilty. Amber and benzoin anchor the drydown, resins that feel like clarity achieved, the moment a decision clicks into place and you're left with nothing but forward motion.
What makes Rami's structure work is the fig. Too often fig plays second fiddle to sweeter fruits, but here it pairs with black cherry in a way that feels almost fermented, dark, jammy, slightly boozy without being literal about it. Salted caramel doesn't just add sweetness. It adds the memory of salt on caramel, the slight bitter edge that keeps the composition from sliding into pure confection. Almond in the heart is almost medicinal at first, the faintest whiff of marzipan, before it warms into something edible and comforting.
The evolution
The opening hits fast: black cherry and fig together, dark and jammy, the sweetness immediate and unhedged. No softening, no hesitation. Within minutes, salted caramel appears, not dominant, but weaving itself through the fruit, adding a buttery richness that leans slightly savory. The transition into the heart is subtle. Around twenty minutes in, almond asserts itself, its toasted warmth pushing the cherry and fig further back. The caramel becomes denser, more confection. By the time amber and benzoin arrive in the drydown, the fruit has mostly retreated. What's left is warm resin, close to the skin, intimate in a way the opening never promised. The longevity sits around four to six hours on most skin types, though those with drier skin may find it fades closer to four. The sillage is moderate, present in the first hour, then settling into a quiet warmth that only someone standing very close will notice.
Cultural impact
DefineMe positioned Rami within the broader trend of accessible luxury fragrances that blend wellness aesthetics with scent design. The Crystal Infused Gourmand collection reflects cultural shifts toward personalized, emotionally resonant fragrance experiences that prioritize individual expression. Rami's black cherry and fig combination speaks to contemporary preferences for dark fruit notes paired with creamy, edible undertones. The 2025 launch arrives during a period when consumers increasingly seek scents that feel both indulgent and wearable, bridging the gap between statement fragrances and daily-appropriate wear.
