The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Les Eaux Vives was created by Anne-Sophie Behaghel and launched in 2016. Its composition makes the water-inspired idea feel immediate: citrus brightness, green notes, melon, neroli, juniper berries, and ozonic air gather around a clean white musk base. There is no elaborate origin story to untangle. The fragrance simply translates a sensory image into scent, balancing fresh fruit, cool air, and soft floral notes with a clear, restrained finish. The result is direct and airy, with enough brightness to feel vivid and enough softness to wear comfortably.
The interesting part is the collision of bright fruit and cool air. Bergamot and grapefruit bring the snap, while green notes and ozone make the opening feel less like a fruit bowl and more like sea breeze crossing a garden. Melon softens the center without losing its watery character. Neroli adds a floral brightness, and juniper berries give the composition a light aromatic detail. Together, the notes shift from lively citrus to gentle green and floral facets, with a clean, understated presence that feels easy to return to.
The evolution
The first impression is brisk and citrus-led, with bergamot and grapefruit doing the bright, slightly bitter work. As the scent settles, green notes and ozone make it feel like air moving over water. Melon and neroli bring a juicy floral softness through the middle, while juniper berries add a clean aromatic flicker. The composition gradually becomes quieter and closer to the skin, leaving a restrained trace rather than a heavy trail. Its character moves from fresh citrus to airy green and finally to a soft, clean finish.
Cultural impact
Les Eaux Vives can be explored as a study in freshness and balance. Bergamot and grapefruit establish a bright opening, while green notes and ozone introduce a cool sense of movement. Melon and neroli soften the composition with juicy floral layers, and the overall effect remains polished, clear, and uncomplicated. It is a fragrance for noticing how familiar notes change as the scent settles, from crisp citrus to airy green and a quiet final impression.
