Born from Cognoscenti's architectural mindset, No 30 Hay Incense emerged in 2016 as the house's exploration of disciplined contrast. Perfumer Dannielle Sergent, an architect-turned-nose, sought to capture the ritual of cutting hay at sunrise and the quiet reverence of incense-filled chapels. The restraint of the composition reflects her background in structure, where every element serves a defined purpose.
The absence of opening notes reflects a philosophy that certain fragrances need no introduction. Leather and Hay arrive as equals, avoiding the typical hierarchy where light materials precede heavy ones. Incense serves as the bridge between Leather's darkness and Hay's pastoral lightness. The inclusion of Lavender and Birch adds aromatic and green counterpoints that prevent the composition from becoming monochromatically smoky or leathery. Vetiver functions as both structural element and final impression, ensuring the drydown retains an earthy character even as other materials fade.
