The beginning
Rise Sheer launched in 2015 as a fresher, lighter companion to Beyoncé's Rise from the year before. The concept behind the Rise line draws on female empowerment and the inner strength that makes women feel beautiful on their own terms. Rise Sheer takes that message and gives it room to breathe, working from the same thematic foundation while keeping the overall feel lighter and more transparent. The composition was built to read like a morning edition of the same idea, a cooler, more translucent take that strips away the denser textures of warmer fragrances. Where the original Rise moved through richer territory, Sheer leans into air and light, a scent designed for the wearer who wants that same sense of quiet confidence without feeling weighed down.
The brilliance here is in what the composition leaves out. Instead of chasing longevity with heavy base materials, Sheer builds its brightness from the top, an unusual opening of basil sorbet alongside Sicilian lemon and Italian bergamot, and carries that transparency all the way through. The heart keeps things pale: peony, jasmine, and what sources describe as Golden symphony orchid. The orchid in the middle reads almost like a texture rather than a distinct note, a soft creaminess that supports the florals without dominating them.
The evolution
The first few minutes are the loudest Sheer ever gets. Basil sorbet and Sicilian lemon hit cold and bright, with Italian bergamot adding a bitter green edge. There's a sweetness here, but it reads like frozen fruit rather than sugar, a sharp freshness that wakes the senses immediately. As the opening settles, the citrus begins pulling back and peony arrives first, soft and slightly watery, followed by jasmine that adds a clean soapy dimension to the bouquet. The Golden symphony orchid in the middle is almost invisible, a texture more than a scent, lending a faint creaminess to the floral heart without ever announcing itself. As the composition develops, it gradually settles into its drydown: blonde woods and sheer musk create a soft warmth, with white amber holding everything in a pale golden glow. Rise Sheer arrived as the lighter spring counterpart to Beyoncé's 2014 Rise, positioning itself within a broader fragrance tradition of releasing seasonal flankers for established bestsellers.
