The beginning
Silent Drift arrived in 2025 from Caterina Catalani, a perfumer working within AVAU's debut lineup. The composition is one piece of a brand's first public statement, an entry that leans introspective in mood and temperature. Rather than projecting outward, it folds back on itself, trading immediacy for something more withheld. The fragrance suggests quiet intention over announcement, a deliberate choice to keep its voice low and its textures close. Inside a debut collection that spans varied territory, Silent Drift reads as the contemplative register, the one designed for stillness rather than spectacle.
What makes Silent Drift interesting is the restraint. Bergamot, cypress, and pink pepper open sharp and herbal, with a clarity that sets the tone before anything sweet arrives. Then iris and rose enter, and the temperature drops further. Apricot adds the only real sweetness, and even that is muted, more like fruit remembered than fruit present. The base is where the composition earns its name: ambrette seed gives a skin-like, slightly vegetal musk; sandalwood adds creamy weight without sweetness; white musk holds everything at arm's length.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes belong to the top. Bergamot and cypress hit clean and resinous, with pink pepper threading through like static. There is a coldness here, almost mineral, like the surface of something held too long in shadow. By the 30-minute mark the iris takes over, powdery and cool, and the apricot opens beneath it, not sugary but fleshy, the memory of fruit rather than the fruit itself. Rose is present but quiet, a supporting voice in a chord led by cooler tones. After two hours the composition shifts into its quieter register. The ambrette seed does something interesting: it reads warm but not sweet, slightly earthy, almost like clean skin after a long walk. Sandalwood grounds it, and white musk pulls everything close to the body. By hour six the fragrance is still detectable but intimate, a soft skin scent with woody undertones.

Silent Drift occupies a specific corner within the broader floral-woody category: it is a composition that withholds rather than offers. Early reactions describe it as difficult to pin down, with one reviewer noting they are 'deeply drawn to it' without fully being able to articulate why.
