The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Funny Bunny arrived in 2025 as a seasonal entry in Aura's Pusheen collaboration, a line built on character-driven whimsy and accessible charm. Where the broader Pusheen collection leans playful with names like Meow & Forever and Smitten Kitten, Funny Bunny takes the spring edition brief and runs with it. There's no grand perfumery statement here. The intent was a Floral Fruity Gourmand that wears its sweetness openly while keeping enough herbal snap to feel modern. The opening offers a green, almost bracing quality from eucalyptus and basil, the kind of cool herbal duo you'd expect in an aromatherapy blend rather than a gourmand composition. Pear softens that sharpness with a watery, green-fruit sweetness that bridges the medicinal top notes to the dessert-leaning base.
What makes the composition worth a second look is the unusual tension between the top notes and the base. Eucalyptus and basil are inherently cool, almost medicinal notes, the kind you'd expect in a bracing aromatherapy blend, not a gourmand. Pairing them with pear gives the opening a watery, green-fruit crispness. Then the base shifts hard into dessert territory with coconut, cinnamon, and toffee. That contrast, herbaceous sharpness dissolving into sticky warmth, is the structural gamble that keeps it from reading as one more sugary strawberry scent.
The evolution
First 15 minutes: the eucalyptus and basil lead. They arrive almost bracing, like cracking a fresh stem of basil next to a bowl of sliced pear. There's a watery green-cool quality that feels more spa than dessert. The pear sweetens it just enough to keep things wearable. Around the 20-minute mark, the herbal sharpness recedes and the strawberry comes forward, joined by peony. This is the most overtly sweet phase, soft, almost milky, like strawberry yogurt with a dusting of petals. It can feel a touch juvenile here, but it's brief. From the 90-minute mark onward, the base notes settle in properly. Coconut and toffee take over the warmth, and the cinnamon threads through like a quiet ember underneath. The drydown is the best part: creamy, spiced, faintly caramelized, with the ghost of that opening eucalyptus still clinging to the edges.
Cultural impact
Funny Bunny's eucalyptus opening stakes out a slightly more distinctive position within the fruity-sweet landscape, borrowing just enough herbal edge to avoid pure sugar territory. The strawberry-peony heart keeps things familiar and accessible, while the coconut-toffee base gives it a dessert warmth that reads as cozy rather than overwhelming. The Pusheen branding gives it shelf appeal beyond what the composition alone might earn: this is a fragrance people buy because the cat is on the bottle, then discover they actually like the juice.
