The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
William arrived in 2016, introducing a luminous character that unfolds with sun-drenched clarity. Neroli opens the composition with a sparkling, citrusy brightness that feels both airy and substantial. At its heart, nectarine adds a juicy, slightly tart sweetness, while orange blossom brings a creamy floral warmth. Jasmine sambac anchors the middle with its rich, enveloping presence, adding depth without heaviness. The base settles into sandalwood's smooth, milky woodiness, softened by vanilla's gentle sweetness. The overall effect is one of warmth and radiance, a scent that feels both refreshing and intimate, lingering close to the skin with a presence that invites closer proximity.
The neroli here is not shy. It arrives with the full bittersweet character of the bitter orange blossom, aromatic, green-edged, nothing like the sweet orange you might expect. Paired with nectarine's sun-ripened softness and lavender's quiet herbal lift, the opening announces something confident. Then jasmine sambac enters the heart, bringing its particular richness, indolic, almost animalic in the way good sambac can be. This is where the fragrance shifts from fresh to present. The woody notes and vanilla in the base do not compete. They settle. The result is a white floral that does not disappear into powder. It lasts.
The evolution
The opening arrives quickly, neroli and nectarine dominating, the lavender giving it an aromatic backbone that keeps everything grounded. Within the first hour, the citrus begins to recede. Freesia and jasmine sambac take the stage, the orange blossom deepening into something creamier, waxier. The heart holds for two to three hours, which is generous for a floral. Then the drydown arrives. Sandalwood emerges first, creamy and warm, followed by vanilla, not sweet enough to announce itself, just enough to soften. Musk underneath keeps it close. By the third hour, jasmine has ceded entirely to the base. What lingers is the vanilla-sandalwood combination, intimate and skin-like, moderate sillage that someone standing near you will notice but the room will not. The overall impression is of a warm, approachable presence that feels like the quiet end of a good day.
Cultural impact
Atelier Bloem occupies a particular corner of niche perfumery, botanical, unhurried, rooted in a specific place. William fits into this quietly. It does not shout for attention or claim to reinvent anything. Those who find it tend to keep finding it. The fragrance attracts people who notice what blooms rather than what performs, the unhurried wanderer who pauses at a flower stall on the way somewhere else.
