The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Arquiste launched Grand Cuvée in 2025, a fragrance that takes a specific approach to champagne-inspired compositions. Rather than relying on synthetic aldehydic fizz, it builds around cork, cognac, and argan oil, materials drawn from the world of wine, each contributing something distinct to the overall effect. The result is something grounded and specific, where each element feels intentional rather than decorative. The name itself, borrowed from winemaking terminology, suggests the finest blend in a cellar, and here it translates that logic to skin: the best elements of a certain lifestyle, stripped of affectation, leaving only what holds.
Champagne and vanilla bean open the composition with immediate effervescence. The inclusion of cork as a top note is unusual: dry, almost toasted, it adds a nutty counterweight that prevents the sweetness from becoming cloying. In the heart, argan oil delivers a creamy, sun-warmed quality that reads as skin, but specifically the warmth of it. Cognac anchors the base with a boozy depth that avoids medicinal territory. The interplay between these elements creates something celebratory without becoming frivolous, the real achievement of Grand Cuvée.
The evolution
The opening burst is effervescent and immediate: champagne bubbles, vanilla bean, a quick pop of fruit. The cork note cuts through early, dry, nutty, grounding. It prevents the sweetness from floating away entirely. The argan arrives with a warm, almost skin-like quality, a creamy stone fruit quality that feels intimate. The peach doesn't announce itself; it just lingers in the periphery. The drydown belongs to cedarwood, dry, quiet, almost pencil-shaving in its restraint. Cognac sits beneath, adding warmth without heat. Amber lasts longest, close and persistent. The champagne and peach gradually recede as the fragrance settles into its quieter, more contemplative phase.
Cultural impact
Grand Cuvée sits at an interesting intersection: champagne notes are familiar territory for fragrance, yet the execution here takes a specific direction. The addition of argan oil and cork as structural elements gives it a texture that feels intentional rather than random. It's the kind of fragrance that rewards attention, not through complexity, but through restraint. The warmth of the drydown makes it a compelling option in the luxury leisure space.
