The beginning
Jester arrived in 2022 as part of ARgENTUM's expanding fragrance line, a collection that draws on the symbolic weight of tarot. Delphine Thierry, the perfumer behind it, built this composition around the Fool, the card that carries possibility and play in equal measure. The brief wasn't about comedy. It was about that specific lightness, the kind that makes strangers glance up. Thierry's opening layers the citrus accord, where blood orange sets a sharp, almost edible tone. Ylang-ylang arrives next, and Thierry uses its lush, banana-skin sweetness to give the composition emotional architecture rather than letting it read as pure novelty. New Caledonian sandalwood grounds the drydown, lending its creamy, slightly resinous warmth to whatever mischief came before.
What's clever here is the temperature. Most citrus fragrances stay cool and fleeting. Jester warms almost immediately. The ginger does some of that work, adding a clean, almost woody heat underneath the fruit. The orange blossom and freesia create a white floral haze that feels less like a bouquet and more like sunlight filtered through curtain sheers.
