The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Simply Pink arrived in 2013 as an evolution within the Pink Sugar line, Aquolina's most recognizable fragrance family, launched internationally in 2003. The original Pink Sugar had already built a devoted following over a decade. Simply Pink was introduced to expand that legacy, arriving on the market in charming pink flacons in Spring 2013. Available in 30, 50, and 100 ml EDT formats, sizes that made it accessible across entry-level and full-collection purchases. The flanker maintains recognizable elements of its predecessor while presenting its own character, offering wearers a fresh interpretation within the Pink Sugar collection.
What makes Simply Pink's structure interesting is how it manages sweetness without tipping into syrupy. The opening fizz of bergamot and green leaves creates a brief effervescence before the fruit arrives, a controlled burst of brightness that signals this isn't a linear sugar bomb. The almond note threading through the top is doing real work: it adds a soft spice and nuttiness that prevents the raspberry from reading as simple candy. By the time jasmine and white flowers take over, the composition has already established enough complexity that the florals feel intentional rather than obligatory.
The evolution
The opening fizz catches you off guard. Bergamot sparkles first, then raspberry arrives juicy and round, with almond adding a soft nutty warmth beneath. The raspberry and almond emerge sweeter and rounder as the top notes settle. After some time, jasmine and white flowers take over, the composition shifting from playful to romantic, almost shy. Then the drydown settles. Strawberry and praline arrive warm and edible, sweet without being syrupy, but the licorice is the lingerer here. It stays closest to the skin long after the vanilla fades, a quiet aniseed whisper that marks this as unmistakably Pink Sugar. The aniseed note lingers on the skin, grounding the sweeter elements and providing an unexpected depth that distinguishes this fragrance from more straightforward fruity compositions.
Cultural impact
Simply Pink occupies a particular position in the Pink Sugar universe, offering a softer expression of the signature style. It speaks the same language as the original but in a gentler register, bright, fizzy, and wearing its sweetness openly. The fragrance provides an accessible option for those seeking the Pink Sugar character without the intensity of the original. Wearers often note the prominence of the raspberry and strawberry notes, finding them brighter and more pronounced than in the classic formulation.
