The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Berlin-based April Aromatics, founded in 2008, specializes in small-batch botanical perfumes housed in minimalist amber bottles. Tanja Bochnig approaches fragrance as pure aromatherapy, emphasizing essential-oil extraction and sustainable sourcing. Lavandeluce emerged from her 2019 vision to bottle the sensory memory of Provence: endless purple rows of lavender, the golden light of summer afternoons, and the constant hum of bees drifting between blossoms. Rather than constructing a complex pyramid with fleeting top notes, Bochnig built Lavandeluce around heart materials that open immediately, honoring the immediacy of scent itself.
Bochnig's note philosophy treats the heart as the soul of a fragrance. Rather than overwhelming with opening theatrics, she constructs compositions where core materials breathe from the start. Lavandeluce's seven heart notes each carry distinct aromatic identities yet share anAffinity for warmth and organic texture. The pairing of lavender with honey and vanilla creates obvious sensory harmony, evoking the actual substances bees produce among the flowers. Hay and tonka mirror each other's coumarin content, reinforcing the dry, slightly medicinal character of sun-dried grasses. Cardamom and vetiver provide contrast, the former adding spice without sharpness, the latter delivering earth without heaviness.
The evolution
The heart notes of Lavandeluce form a continuous, evolving blend rather than distinct waves. Lavender arrives first, its bright, camphoraceous quality softened by honey. Hay adds pastoral dryness from the start, anchoring the sweetness before it can climb too high. As minutes pass, vanilla and tonka emerge more fully, creating a creaminess that tempers lavender's sharpness. Cardamom surfaces briefly, its spicy warmth appearing at the periphery like a breeze carrying herbs from a distant window box. Vetiver grounds the composition throughout, its earthy, slightly smoky character ensuring the sweetness never tips into cloying territory. By the time the fragrance settles into skin, the Lavender, Honey, Hay, Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Vetiver, and Cardamom have merged into a single, cohesive impression of warmth-drenched fields.
Cultural impact
Since its 2019 release, Lavendeluce has become a go‑to summer signature for fans of natural‑focused niche houses. Wearers often cite its ability to evoke Provence’s lavender festivals without feeling cloying, earning compliments in both casual and semi‑formal settings. The fragrance’s blend of aromatic herbs and sweet honey positions it alongside other botanical‑centric releases that celebrate seasonal landscapes, reinforcing April Aromatics’ reputation for honest, field‑inspired compositions.
