Why it exists.
The beginning
From the Heart was Alghabra Parfums' opening move in their Damascus Collection, released in 2018 with Jorge Lee composing. The inspiration wasn't abstract. It was the inner courtyard of the traditional Arabic house in Old Damascus, where various types of flowers and fruits were cultivated around a central gathering space. The kind of enclosed garden that's shaded, private, and built around scent. Lee translated that architecture into a floral-fruity composition, opening with the fruit and greenery you'd brush past walking through the gate, then settling into cooler, shaded florals within the interior. The peach reads soft and rounded against the sharper citrus, while the greenery keeps the opening from drifting into simple sweetness.
What makes this composition work isn't the note list. It's the proportions. Petitgrain sits alongside bergamot at the top, and that pairing matters more than its individual presence suggests. The bitter orange referenced in the brief finds a structural echo in the petitgrain, which carries that same green, slightly bitter edge before the fruit announces itself more openly. So the courtyard reference isn't simply conceptual. It's present in the architecture of the opening. From there, Damask rose and lily carry the heart without going indolic or heavy.
The evolution
The opening is the greenest the fragrance gets. Petitgrain and bergamot read almost leafy, sharp against the peach, which arrives sweet underneath and softens the edges quickly. The peach has a roundness that fills in the gaps between the citrus notes, and as it settles, it bridges the gap to the florals coming up from underneath. Lily adds a clean, almost soapy brightness that keeps the florals from going dense, and the Damask rose opens up gradually, warming the composition without dominating it. As the hours pass, the top notes fade and the rose takes on a quieter, slightly honeyed character, sitting closer to the skin. The amber registers low, not as a loud base note but as a warmth that holds everything together. What's left is a soft, warm haze of amber and residual rose, close to the body. The sillage is moderate.
Cultural impact
From the Heart arrived as Alghabra's debut entry in the Damascus Collection, and its subject matter, the enclosed courtyard of the traditional Arabic house, gave it a clear thematic anchor. The fragrance takes a familiar domestic setting and renders it through a floral-fruity lens that feels both rooted and readable. It draws on imagery specific to the Eastern Mediterranean while keeping its voice accessible and its construction light, which gives it a versatile character.
