Heritage
A house, in its own words
Hany Hafez grew up in Cairo, Egypt, where he first encountered traditional perfume markets. After moving to the United States, he spent several years consulting for emerging fragrance brands, helping other creators bring their ideas to market. In 2017 he launched Alexandria Fragrances as an independent house, naming it after the historic city that inspired his early love of scent. The first collection focused on recreating classic accords with a modern twist, using a small team of chemists and perfumers. By 2018 the brand introduced Brasilia (Smoky Batch), a limited‑run fragrance that combined smoky birch with a sweet amber base, signaling a willingness to experiment beyond mainstream trends. The following year saw the release of White Oud Perfume Oil, a transparent oil that highlighted the brand’s commitment to offering both spray and oil formats. 2020 marked a busy year with Executive Aoud, a rich oud composition, and Le Chypre, a nod to the historic chypre family. In 2022 the house expanded its narrative line with Law of Attraction, a scent that blends aromatic herbs with a subtle gourmand edge, and Into the Woods, a forest‑inspired fragrance that earned positive notes from community reviewers on Fragrantica. 2023 brought COTY 1997x, a reinterpretation of a vintage scent, while 2024 introduced a trio of new releases—Brasilia Absolu, Mysterio De Myrrh, and Mango Storm—each showcasing the brand’s evolving palette. Throughout its growth, Alexandria Fragrances has kept production in‑house, ensuring that every batch meets the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) safety standards. The brand’s trajectory reflects a steady accumulation of niche releases, a focus on quality, and a gradual expansion from a local California operation to a name recognized by fragrance enthusiasts worldwide. Alexandria Fragrances approaches scent creation as a dialogue between nature and chemistry. The founder states that the house seeks to honor traditional ingredients while embracing modern synthetic molecules that extend a perfume’s longevity and nuance. Each formula begins with a brief that identifies a mood, a place, or a memory, then the lab team sketches a scent map that balances top, heart, and base notes. The brand values transparency, so it publishes ingredient lists and confirms compliance with IFRA regulations. Sustainability informs sourcing decisions; natural extracts are obtained from certified farms when possible, and synthetic aromachemicals are selected for their low environmental impact. Alexandria avoids mass‑market trends, instead favoring a curated release schedule that allows the team to refine each composition before it reaches customers. The house also encourages community feedback, monitoring reviews on platforms such as Fragrantica to gauge how a fragrance evolves in the wearer's skin over time. This iterative mindset shapes future releases, ensuring that the creative vision remains grounded in real‑world experience.
