The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Alexandria Fragrances built FUntastic as an unabashed homage, the name itself is a wink at Tom Ford's Fucking Fabulous, the 2018 release that redefined what bold, unapologetic leather could smell like in modern perfumery. Hany Hafez, who founded the house in 2017, designed FUntastic for wearers who recognized the reference and wanted a version they could wear without hesitation. The brief was simple: intoxicating, Oriental leather that announces itself and refuses to quiet down.
What makes the composition interesting is how it threads opposing impulses. Lavender and clary sage provide an aromatic, almost herbal opening that softens the initial almond punch. The leather accord arrives not as aggression but as authority, refined, with a polished quality borrowed from the orris root that adds a violet-like powderiness. Tonka bean and amber in the base don't compete with the leather; they support it, creating a warm, slightly sweet foundation that extends the drydown well beyond where most leather fragrances call it a night. Cashmeran, a synthetic musky-wood material, adds that skin-close, velvety texture without any heaviness.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, sweet lavender and bitter almond arrive together in a burst that's almost medicinal before the lavender settles and the leather accord steps forward. That leather is the signal. Not sharp, not smoky. Polished leather, like a jacket that's been worn in. Within the first hour the vanilla and orris arrive, turning the composition powdery and warm. The heart, almond, leather, tonka, holds steady for two to three hours, which is unusual for a fragrance this sweet. The drydown softens into woody notes and amber, but the leather doesn't fully leave. It lingers, deep in the base, long after the sweetness has faded. On fabric, expect to catch traces the next morning.
Cultural impact
FUntastic occupies a specific corner of the fragrance world: the near-identical clone of a high-end reference scent, priced for accessibility. For collectors who already own the Tom Ford original, it serves as a reliable workhorse alternative. For newcomers, it's an introduction to an accord they might not otherwise explore at full retail. The conversation around it tends to focus on one thing: how close is close enough?
