The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Natural Forest takes its name from something specific, not a place, but a feeling. The perfumer behind this composition wanted to capture the moment you step into a forest and the air changes: green, alive, immediately present. Al Haramain has spent decades building oriental fragrances rooted in sacred geography, but this release leans into a different kind of territory. The concept is simple: translate the restorative quality of nature into a wearable experience for modern life. The name is a promise, the fragrance should feel like that first breath of green air, however many hours pass before you stop noticing it.
What makes Natural Forest unusual is how it builds a green-fruity fougère. The fougère family typically anchors on lavender and coumarin for a soapy, masculine structure. Here, the perfumer replaces that classic dryness with blackcurrant and apricot, fruit notes that soften the herbal sharpness of coriander and basil without disappearing into sweetness. The base compounds this approach: ambrette (a sustainable musk from hibiscus seeds) and dates provide warmth and body, anchoring the composition in something richer than the typical fougère drydown. The result is a fragrance that reads as aromatic and green at first, then settles into something warmer and more intimate as the hours pass.
The evolution
The opening hits sharp and bright. Mint and coriander arrive first, cutting through the citrus layer of orange, lemon, and blackcurrant. This phase is brisk, the kind of green that wakes you up without asking permission. It lasts about 30 minutes before the heart takes over. The heart is where the fragrance earns its name. May rose and carrot seeds bring an earthy quality that reads as forest-floor, not florist. Apricot keeps the transition from feeling austere, a soft, ripe sweetness that prevents the herbal notes from dominating. The basil lingers in the background, adding an aromatic complexity that shifts the composition from sharp to layered. By the second hour, the base notes assert themselves. Ambrette and dates create a warm, slightly sweet drydown that extends through the evening. The fig note appears late, a subtle green-woody quality that ties back to the original concept. This is where Natural Forest earns its longevity: the base holds for six to eight hours on most skin types, sitting close to the skin rather than announcing itself across the room.
Cultural impact
Natural Forest joined Al Haramain's portfolio in 2025 as part of the Haramain Natural collection, a line designed to translate natural environments into fragrance. The green-fougère category is well-established in Western perfumery, but Al Haramain's approach adds fruity warmth and oriental sensibility to the structure. Early reception positions the fragrance as a bridge between aromatic masculinity and approachable sweetness. The moderate sillage and six-to-eight-hour longevity make it a practical choice for daily wear, the kind of fragrance that works without demanding attention.
