The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oud Tempête arrived in 2025 as Yzkine's third composition, following Cuir Caramelo and Colle Nacarat. The name means "Oud Storm" in French, a direct statement of intent. Perfumer Camille Chemardin built this around Laotian oud, a material known for its dark, animalic depth. But she didn't start there. She started with berries. The decision to open with blueberry, blackcurrant, and blackberry before letting oud take over wasn't accidental, it was the whole point. A storm doesn't begin with thunder. It builds.
The berry-oud pairing is unusual precisely because it shouldn't work. Berries signal brightness, accessibility, something easy to like. Oud signals depth, darkness, something you earn. Bringing them together required a perfumer willing to let that tension exist without resolving it too quickly. Chemardin threaded saffron and plum liqueur through the heart, warm, fermented, slightly animal, to bridge the gap between the bright opening and the resinous base. Cypriol, an earthy-smoky relative of vetiver, anchors the drydown alongside ambergris, giving the oud a salty, waxy finish that extends its presence on skin.
The evolution
The opening hits within seconds. Blueberry and blackcurrant arrive first, tart and dark, followed by blackberry's deeper sweetness. Lavender keeps everything grounded with a green, slightly bitter edge. This isn't a polite hello, it's an announcement. Within the first hour, the berries begin to recede as saffron takes hold. The transition isn't abrupt. Violet appears next, soft and powdery, followed by plum liqueur's fermented warmth. By the second hour, the base has fully established itself. Laotian oud dominates, dry, resinous, with an animalic edge that announces itself without apology. Rum deepens the warmth. Cypriol adds an earthy, smoky character that lingers. Ambergris provides a salty, waxy finish that extends the drydown considerably. This isn't a quiet fragrance. The scent projects boldly, filling a room before settling closer to the skin as the day progresses.
Cultural impact
Oud Tempête is a 2025 release from a house built on boldness rather than restraint. Yzkine's philosophy favors compositions that make their presence known, and this fragrance delivers exactly that. Community ratings show strong sillage alongside excellent longevity, the kind of performance that rewards wearers who choose it.
