The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lale blooms where it shouldn't. Inspired by Wintersweet, that rare Himalayan flower from the Chimonanthus genus that opens when the first snow falls. The composition was built around this anomaly: osmanthus and white florals softened by apricot, warmed by saffron, held close by amber and benzoin. The interplay of these notes creates an unexpected warmth, stone fruits meeting the golden spice, while the resinous base wraps everything in a soft, lingering embrace. The name is a quiet declaration from a house that understands beauty doesn't always arrive on schedule. First released in 2011.
The Wintersweet inspiration runs deeper than the name. Osmanthus is already uncommon, it smells like apricot leather, fruit and flower at once. Micotti pushed it further with saffron and pink pepper, giving the heart an edible warmth that most white florals lack. Then he grounded everything under amber and benzoin, so the sweetness only emerges for someone standing close enough to notice. It's a fragrance built for proximity, not projection.
The evolution
The opening arrives clear: bergamot and mandarin orange, a brief citrus brightness. Then osmanthus takes over, that apricot-leather note that defines everything after. The heart reveals white flowers, apricot, and a subtle rose as the florals deepen and become more complex. The saffron appears here, adding warmth without heat. The base begins its slow reveal: amber and benzoin warming close to the skin, woods providing structure, a whisper of incense that keeps the sweetness from becoming heavy. There's a gradual shift from bright to warm, from delicate to intimate, and the final drydown is something you'll want to stay close to. The progression is unhurried, each stage arriving only when it's ready.
Cultural impact
Lale features Wintersweet, that rare Himalayan material that brings a quiet complexity to its composition. The osmanthus and apricot combination draws those who seek unusual white florals, something that feels both familiar and entirely unexpected. It's the kind of fragrance people keep in their collection, the one that reveals something unexpected with each wearing. Those who know it recognize the way it moves through its phases, each one offering something new to discover.
