The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Carine Certain Boin set out to capture a single moment: the rose, freshly picked. In Turkey's Isparta region, roses grow on terraced fields between lakes Burdur and Egirdir. Hand-picked in the morning during May and June, they yield Rosa Damascena Absolute through solvent extraction, prized for its elegance, its warmth, its quiet complexity. The perfumer wanted that immediacy preserved: the freshness of petals gathered at dawn, delicate and innocent, transformed into something opulent and bewitching. Released in 2023 as part of The Merchant of Venice's Accordi di Profumo collection, Rosa Turchia translates a specific landscape into liquid form, the honeyed warmth inherent to the material itself, nothing more, nothing less.
What makes Rosa Turchia striking is its refusal to complicate. Where many rose fragrances accumulate, supporting florals, spiced tops, woody foundations, this one commits to a single material's full expression. Turkish rose absolute carries its own complexity: green undertones, a honeyed sweetness, a waxy richness that suggests petals rather than their absence. The honey note doesn't sweeten the composition. It deepens it, adding warmth without gourmand character, richness without weight. This is rose understood as an absolute: the material concentrated to its essential self, worn by someone who wants the thing itself rather than an interpretation of it.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately, a fresh, dewy rose that needs no introduction. Delicate, yes, but also present. The honey warmth begins to build within the first minutes, lending a golden quality without ever crossing into sweetness. Two hours in, the honey has fully arrived, deepening the rose into something opulent. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its name. By evening, it's Turkish rose absolute concentrated to its essence, warm, bewitching, still projecting. On dry skin it softens but never fully fades. On warm skin, it fills a space with that quiet confidence: honeyed rose, nothing else, all day.
Cultural impact
Rosa Turchia joins a lineage of rose-forward releases within the Accordi di Profumo collection, fragrances defined by their commitment to honest material over constructed narrative. The 2023 release appeals to those who seek Turkish rose in its most concentrated, uncompromised form. It's a fragrance for the wearer who knows exactly what they want: the absolute, not an approximation.
