The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
When Stars Align landed in 2025 from The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, and the brief is right there in the name. Cosmic Power by Charlotte Tilbury set the template: a spicy amber that walks the line between celestial and grounded. The Dua Brand took that blueprint and reconstructed the architecture with bergamot, black pepper, and cinnamon at the gate, rose and elemi resin in the middle, and a base of frankincense, amber, vanilla, and musk to anchor the whole thing. The result is a composition that reads familiar enough to feel like a discovery rather than a gamble, threading the needle between recognizable DNA and its own quiet identity.
The interesting move here is how the two resins share the work. Elemi resin at the heart does what citrus can't quite manage, a bright, almost green sharpness that keeps the rose from turning too pretty. Then frankincense arrives at the base and pulls everything into a slower, smokier register. That's the real architecture of this composition. The spice notes grab attention, but the resin structure is what keeps the whole thing standing after the cinnamon fades. It's a lesson in patience dressed up as impulse.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes belong to the spice. Bergamot opens with a quick flash of citrus, then black pepper and cinnamon take over with a warmth that's dry rather than sweet. The rose steps in next, and it's a quiet rose, cushioned by elemi resin's green brightness, nothing floral-shop about it. The elemi does more than decorate the middle though; it adds a slightly bitter, almost pine-like edge that keeps the rose from going powdery, and it bridges the gap between the sharp opening spices and the resinous base waiting underneath. As the composition settles, the frankincense surfaces, and the whole thing shifts register. The spice recedes, the vanilla softens what remains of the cinnamon, and amber gives the musk something warm to lean against. The transition isn't abrupt.
Cultural impact
When Stars Align borrows from Charlotte Tilbury's Cosmic Power, a spicy amber that helped bring that profile back into rotation for a wider audience. The Dua Brand's version offers that same profile through their Inspired Expression line, giving wearers a route to the scent without going through Charlotte Tilbury's catalog directly.
