The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza built Sugary Fantasy of Cotton Candy in 2023 as part of The Dua Brand's Original Blend Collection. The name does the heavy lifting here. Sugary Fantasy. Of Cotton Candy. No subtlety, no subversion, no coy subtext. Raza and the Dua team committed to the title completely, treating spun sugar as a serious compositional challenge rather than a one-note gimmick. The opening is bright, immediate, and unapologetically sweet: the kind of first spray that announces itself before you've even lifted your wrist to your nose. What follows is a careful balancing act, the spun sugar note anchored by materials that give it shape and staying power.
What separates this from a typical cotton candy scent is the structural restraint underneath. Most spun sugar fragrances collapse into a single-note sugar blast that fades within two hours. This one builds on a base of tonka bean, benzoin, and musk, materials that anchor the sweetness in something resinous and warm. The powdery notes and vanilla in the heart add a creamy, almost cosmetic softness that prevents the sugar from reading as juvenile. The combination matters.
The evolution
First spray is pure sugar. Bright, almost sharp, like biting into fresh spun sugar at the stick. The caramel softens the edges within minutes, pulling the sweetness into something rounder and more confectionery. You get a clean hit of cotton candy that smells closer to actual candy floss than most attempts at the note, rendered with a clarity that lets each sugar element read on its own before they fold together. An hour in, the powdery notes surface. The fragrance shifts from carnival to cosmetics counter. Vanilla blooms underneath, creamy and full, while the tonka bean starts pulling warm. The benzoin arrives quietly, adding a resinous sweetness that reads almost like honey on warm skin.
Cultural impact
This fragrance sits squarely in the gourmand category, the territory The Dua Brand has explored extensively across its catalog. Cotton candy fragrances have proliferated in recent years, but few manage to balance sweetness with the kind of structural depth that makes a scent wearable beyond a single occasion. Sugary Fantasy of Cotton Candy treats spun sugar as a serious compositional material rather than a novelty note, building it on a foundation of tonka, benzoin, and musk that gives it longevity and warmth.
