The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Spellbound launched in 2019 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, and the name says what the composition does. The formula was built to echo Robert Piguet's Knightsbridge, an extrait originally produced exclusively for Harrods, and The Dua's version reads as a confident translation rather than a copy. Roses, orris, leather, nutmeg, sandalwood, tonka. Six materials. Each one carries weight.
Spellbound originated from a direct study of Robert Piguet's Knightsbridge, an extrait that was available exclusively through Harrods in London. The composition draws on the signature elements that made the source fragrance a quiet favorite among orris and leather enthusiasts, rebuilding the character from its essential accords. The opening carries that familiar soft iris warmth, a cream-leaning floral that eases into the composition without ever feeling sharp.
The evolution
Since its 2019 launch, Spellbound has settled into a steady niche among orris-forward collectors. The composition itself reads as a careful balance between powdered iris and supple leather, with the rose threading gently through every phase and the nutmeg adding a faint warmth that never tips into sharpness. The butter accord in the opening gives the fragrance a soft, almost edible roundness before the leather arrives, and the sandalwood in the heart works to smooth the transition between floral and hide. As the drydown unfolds, the tonka softens the composition further and the leather takes on a suede-like finish that sits close to the skin. The nutmeg persists in a whisper on fabric long after the heavier notes have faded.
Cultural impact
Spellbound sits inside a quiet collector niche. Knightsbridge, the fragrance it translates, was a Harrods exclusive with limited reach, so the conversation around Spellbound stays mostly between people who've heard the name and wondered what it actually smells like. Within the broader leather fragrance conversation, Spellbound leans notably toward the powdery iris side rather than the heavier smoke or tobacco territory. The gender-neutral positioning reads as a natural result of the accords rather than a deliberate branding choice. Powder, nutmeg, and suede leather all inhabit territory that translates across traditional fragrance categories.
