The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Dua Brand's Rose Of Taif Heights lands in 2026 as part of the Inspired Expression collection, and it wears its reference point openly in the name. Taif rose is among the most prized materials in perfumery, a material steeped in heritage and reverence, long associated with luxury and ceremony. The brief here was clear: pair that storied bloom with its classical sibling, Damask rose, and let the powdery iris and violet handle the architecture. Mahsam Raza composed the fragrance, building a concise structure where every layer earns its place. The opening is built on a cool violet-iris accord that reads almost cosmetic, a powder that settles on the skin like the ghost of a makeup compact, and it gives the composition a quiet, refined lift before any flower arrives.
What makes this composition worth attention is the restraint. Four materials, five if you count both roses, and a musk drydown. The iris and violet do the lift in the first minutes, lending that suede-cool, almost lipstick-like quality, then step aside so the two roses can carry the conversation. It's an exercise in editing, and the editing is the point. Where many compositions pile on accord after accord in pursuit of complexity, this one earns its complexity through contrast: powder against petal, cool against warm, lift against depth.
The evolution
The opening minutes are all iris, that cool violet-tinged powder settling onto skin like a second skin. The Taif and Damask roses arrive together, no fade-in drama, just presence. Taif brings its characteristic clarity, bright and lifted, almost ethereal in the way it cuts through the powder. Damask brings the depth, a richer, warmer undertone that gives the heart its body. They merge rather than compete, and the heart holds for hours without losing definition. The musk begins its slow takeover as the roses begin to recede, and the transition is seamless in the truest sense: not a hard handoff but a gradual softening. On skin the composition stays close, a personal radius rather than a room-filler, and the following morning the musk lingers on fabric like a faint memory.
Cultural impact
Rose of Taif occupies a distinctive place in contemporary perfumery, where rose-centric compositions have become something of a canvas for experimentation. This release centers the Taif rose as its hero material, a flower long associated with prestige and ceremony, and pairs it with iris and violet to give the composition a modern, powdery edge. The result is a fragrance that speaks to a global conversation about rose in luxury perfumery, one where the bloom is no longer treated as a nostalgic reference but as a living material that can be reshaped.
