The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Princeless Therapy arrived in 2022 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Hybrid collection. The official framing leans into the archetype, drawing on Kilian Paris's I Don't Need a Prince by My Side to be a Princess, a gourmand built around vanilla, marshmallow, and benzoin. The Dua Brand's version takes that dessert-leaning DNA and widens the brief, stretching the composition into something with a broader tonal range while keeping the original's core comfort at its center. The opening carries a bright citrus burst: bergamot, mandarin, and lemon cutting through with a clean, almost sparkling sharpness, sharpened further by a sliver of ginger at the back of the throat.
What makes the note pyramid interesting isn't any single material but the sheer range of voices The Dua Brand chose to fit inside one bottle. Bergamot, mandarin, and lemon open the citrus front, while blackcurrant and green tea pull the fruit toward something less confectionery and more like a bright orchard. Hedione and jasmine lend a translucent, almost watery lift that keeps the sweetness from collapsing into syrup. Then the gourmand register arrives: marshmallow, vanilla, benzoin, and peach, supported by ginger's clean heat and magnolia's creamy floral. White sandalwood and Indian sandalwood anchor the drydown, with white musk and musk adding that second-skin softness the composition keeps reaching for.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the brightest stretch. Bergamot, mandarin, and lemon cut through with that clean, almost clinical sharpness, and for a moment it reads more like a sparkling citrus cologne than anything gourmand. Then the ginger arrives, warm and slightly sharp at the back of the throat, and the blackcurrant softens the citrus edges into something juicier. The marshmallow registers in the mid development not as sugar but as a creamy, almost powdered warmth that settles into the mid-skin. This is where the composition does its real work. The white sandalwood and Indian sandalwood take on more weight as the citrus fades, and the benzoin wraps around them like resin warmed in a palm. The vanilla and peach become one note, a low hum rather than a top note, with the peach adding a soft, fleshy sweetness that keeps the confectionery elements from going flat.
Cultural impact
Princeless Therapy draws on Kilian Paris's I Don't Need a Prince by My Side to be a Princess, a gourmand built around vanilla, marshmallow, and benzoin, and the Dua Brand's version takes that dessert-leaning DNA and widens the brief. The result is a composition that keeps the original's confectionery comfort at its center while stretching into a broader tonal range. The opening carries a bright citrus burst of bergamot, mandarin, and lemon, sharpened by ginger and softened by blackcurrant, which gives the fragrance a sparkling first impression that reads more like a clean citrus cologne than a typical gourmand.
