The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oasis Of Mali 22 sits inside The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, where the house takes well-known scent profiles and rebuilds them with an emphasis on accessibility. Mahsam Raza, the perfumer behind this 2025 release, composed it as a study in contrasts. The brief: cool, herbal aromatics on the surface, with something richer waiting underneath. A crossroads kind of scent, then. Things from different places meeting on the same piece of skin. The green-aromatic tilt draws from the aromatic fougère tradition, but the additions of cocoa, leather, and myrrh push it away from anything that reads as a straightforward fresh fragrance. The composition works because it refuses to stay in one lane for long.
What's interesting here is the structural tension. Lavender and mint typically signal fresh, soapy territory. The cocoa and leather underneath rearrange expectations. Fig leaf and wheat bring an earthy, almost agricultural graininess that grounds the green notes so they don't fly off into cologne-land. Myrrh threads through it all, adding the resinous hum that gives the composition its depth. The interplay between the herbal top notes and the resinous, gourmand-leaning base creates a push-pull dynamic that keeps the scent engaging on the skin.
The evolution
The opening is the cool handshake. Lavender leads, sharpened by something almost camphorous, while mint lifts the composition off your wrist. It smells almost medicinal in the best possible sense. Then the wheat and fig leaf arrive quietly, adding a dry, plant-stalk texture that softens the mint's brightness. As the composition develops, the cocoa shows up and that's where the whole thing pivots. The leather doesn't announce itself, but it darkens everything around it. After some time wearing it, you notice the myrrh and leather have absorbed most of the green, leaving a warm, slightly sweet, resinous finish that lingers close to skin for hours. Moderate sillage means it stays personal. You'll smell it clearly. They might catch a trace. The drydown settles into a quiet, confident space where the resinous warmth dominates and the herbal brightness fades into memory.
Cultural impact
Oasis Of Mali 22 reads as a fragrance of someone who wants texture and complexity without demanding attention. The combination of cocoa, leather, and lavender gives it a layered character that invites closer inspection. The green-aromatic tilt draws from classic fougère architecture, but the additions of gourmand and animalic-leaning materials push it away from anything that reads as a straightforward fresh fragrance. It occupies a space where herbal clarity meets resinous depth, offering a more contemplative take on aromatic perfumery.
