The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Some fragrances earn a kind of permanent address in the conversation. Lancôme's Hypnose Homme, released in 2007, became one of them, an oriental fougère that built a particular tension between lavender and patchouli. The Dua Brand constructed Mesmerized by Him as a direct homage to that 2007 original, an Extrait de Parfum concentration in a 30 ml format that captures the timeless essence of the source. Released in 2022, Mesmerized by Him steps into a lineage that begins with a well-known composition and ends with something rebuilt in a different voice. The Extrait concentration gives the formula more density than a standard eau de toilette, and you can feel that weight in how the patchouli and amber sit on the skin.
The interesting thing here is restraint. Mesmerized by Him layers cardamom and mint across the top, giving the opening a sharper, more aromatic edge before the heart settles. The cardamom in particular is doing structural work, bridging the bright citrus and the deeper patchouli that follows. It changes the temperature of the whole composition, pulling it slightly cooler and more aromatic than a straight tribute might have.
The evolution
The opening belongs to the mint. Cold, clean, almost toothpaste-bright, with bergamot and mandarin lifting the edges and cardamom adding a dry, almost smoky heat underneath. Then the lavender arrives, not soapy or sweet, but herbal and slightly medicinal, and the patchouli starts threading in beneath it. The top notes eventually fade and you're standing in the heart, which is where this fragrance lives its best hours. The patchouli dominates, dark and earthy with a green bite that never fully softens. The amber underneath adds warmth but never sweetness. Then the drydown takes over, and this is the part that lingers. The patchouli and amber hold for hours, close to the skin, with a faint trace of musk that keeps everything from going flat.
Cultural impact
Mesmerized by Him exists in a specific corner of the fragrance world, the space where compositions are studied, rebuilt, and presented as homages to established originals. The oriental fougère structure, the lavender-patchouli axis, the aromatic opening with cardamom and mint, all of it signals a fragrance that knows what it's quoting. The Extrait de Parfum concentration gives the formula a density that eau de toilette versions of the same architecture don't reach, and that extra weight changes how the patchouli and amber present on the skin.
