The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
His Spirit of Waterfall launched in 2021, composed by Mahsam Raza as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line. The name points straight at the composition's central image, water and height meeting together, and Raza built the scent around that collision. He pulled yuzu, lotus, and cypress into the same frame as vetiver, sandalwood, and tobacco. The result reads less like a traditional masculine aromatic and more like a layered composition: an opening rendered in bright citrus and cool green, rooted in warm wood and earth below. The yuzu cuts first, sharp and almost effervescent, dragging a watery sheen across the lotus so the floral note reads cold rather than soapy. Cypress deepens that effect, pushing the top into territory that feels more mineral than fruity.
What separates this from the endless queue of aquatic fragrances is the structural tension underneath. Calone gives the bright, ozonic lift that makes the opening feel cold and wet, but the midstructure holds real weight: sage and tarragon bring an almost bitter herbaceousness, and tobacco, cinnamon, and nutmeg pull the whole thing toward something more architectural. The base then resolves with vetiver, cedar, and amber that refuse to let the fragrance collapse into simple freshness. This is an aquatic with a skeleton.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all atmosphere. Yuzu, lemon, and bergamot arrive together in a bright, almost effervescent rush, undercut by the cool, mineral snap of calone. It smells like stepping out of a warm room into cold air, a quick, clarifying jolt. Cypress and blue lotus arrive early in the background, adding a green, slightly metallic coolness that keeps the citrus from turning sweet. By the thirty-minute mark, the cold edge begins to warm. Coriander and tarragon emerge with an herbal, almost savory quality, and lily of the valley softens the sharpness into something floral and quiet. The heart settles into a balanced space between freshness and warmth: sage, geranium, and a thread of cinnamon and saffron that hums underneath without announcing itself. The transition into the base is gradual but decisive. Vetiver, sandalwood, and tobacco arrive together, carrying the warmth forward while the citrus elements slowly fade. By the third hour, the fragrance has shifted fully into its drydown: a smooth, woody blend where amber and musk soften the remaining edges.
Cultural impact
His Spirit of Waterfall leans into an aquatic template while refusing to stay within its usual limits. The yuzu and lotus pairing gives the opening a recognizable cool-floral signature, but Raza builds underneath it with sage, tarragon, and a spiced heart of tobacco, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The result is a fragrance that reads fresh on first contact but accumulates depth quickly as the warmer notes surface. For wearers, that means a transition from bright citrus and ozonic lift in the opening toward a drier, more herbaceous middle, and finally into a base of vetiver, sandalwood, cedar, and amber.
